Reassess and Make Changes: Improve Your NFL Team, Business, and LinkedIn Profile Strategies

🦅 E-A-G-L-E-S! That’s the NFL team we’re talking about. Although this could apply to any football team, today we’re focusing on my home team from the land of the brotherly shove as we reflect on the last season.

You might wonder, “Why are we discussing football in June? It’s not football season!” Well, let me explain. When I woke up Thursday morning, I planned to write about a different LinkedIn topic. Then, I attended the SCORE Awards celebration.

I always look forward to the annual SCORE Awards, especially since I was an awardee in 2020 for my nonprofit after being mentored by SCORE.

As of last week, I now celebrate 11 years of volunteering on SCORE’s speakers’ bureau, beginning at Chester & Delaware County SCORE, thanks to Jerry Francis!

At the event, fellow SCORE Mentor David Gerhardt introduced our keynote speaker, who has spent his career with the Eagles. Perhaps you’ve heard of Eagles Insider  Dave Spadaro. Dave’s keynote inspired my newsletter article.

In 2023, the Eagles went from a 10-1 record to a disappointing end, unable to recover. Dave explained that the team needed to step back, reassess, and determine the required changes

The CEO (Jeffrey Lurie), Coach Nick Sirianni, and COO (Jalen Hurts) needed to identify what went wrong, hire experienced coordinators, make substantive changes, and rebuild before the September 6, 2024 restart in São Paulo, Brazil.

If you’re a small business owner, those steps might sound familiar. Solopreneurs or small businesses without a team may need outside specialists or SCORE mentors to provide fresh perspectives.

Contact your local SCORE chapter to find a mentor who can help you reassess and determine what changes you need to make

This brings us to LinkedIn. Your LinkedIn profile should be constantly evolving. Pooja Agnihotri, author of “17 Reasons Why Businesses Fail,” stated, “When you become stagnant and aren’t improving by the day, you are only moving toward your failure.”

You need to sharpen the saw—keep your LinkedIn profile fresh and up-to-date, just like your business and football team. Don’t let it be stagnant like an old rusty car. Reassess and determine what changes you need to make.

If you need help with how to proceed, consider hiring a LinkedIn coach for one-on-one assistance or attend LinkedIn workshops at SCORE, Great Careers Networks, or elsewhere..

Dave Spadaro emphasized the importance of team success and that “big dreams require planning.” It may take a village, so build your team!

Visit my LinkedIn profile and check out the “More Gobsmacking Resources” section under my headline to see a list of my upcoming speaking events. I’m always speaking about LinkedIn!

Join me online for LinkedIn and other career education events, and reassess and determine what changes you need to make to your LinkedIn profile.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 2024 SCORE SMALL BUSINESS WINNERS

You are a good man, Andy Reid, but that coveted trophy needs to head east from Kansas City!
